Social Media - On board or ??

This past week John and I met up with Bumble and bumble's head honcho, Peter Lichtenthal, his team and several top Salon Owners.  What did we discuss?  Bettering our business through social media.  Yep that and creating a space that offers 'high-touch' service.

The John Brody Salon has tried to 'keep up with the jones' on this one since, well since the time media took control of how we do business.  It's tough.  It's a challenge to know how and who to reach out to.  But like it or not, the way we do business has changed.  And through the likes of Facebook, Twitter, Yelp and Google, it's only going to push ever forward.  Gone are the days when people only wanted a good hair service (or what ever you are offering).  You need to rise above your offerings and enter the world of social media to make it better.  #getitgotitgood!

Now you may ask, "what is 'high-touch"?  Valid question.  In short, it's when you can go above and beyond the norm with your service (including your environment).  It's normal now-a-days to get good service as the price of ticket to get in.  A clean work place to come to and quality offerings while there are standard.  How then do you go above and beyond that?  Take a personal interest in your clients.  Make it a habit to send personal thank you cards.  Give referral gifts as a way to both thank them and an incentive for their return.  Make sure that your space isn't just nice.  Make it an experience for them to be in while they wait.  Comfort, good lighting, social media area's and music can offer this type of 'high-touch'.

What else can you do?  That my friends is now the question.  How are you yourself using social media?  Are you using Facebook?  Do you Tweet?  How's your Yelp presence?  If you're not doing any of this, maybe you should hire someone or allow one of your staff to manage this for you.

The way we do business folks is changing and will only continue this route further.  Let's face it, the reality to this is: you can be on board or be left behind.  The choice is yours.

Always be in style,

Ryan Brody - The John Brody Salon
